October Disability Awareness Month Activities

 In 2009, former Navajo Nation President Joe Shirley Jr., and Navajo Nation Vice President Ben Shelly had proclaimed the second week of October as "Navajo Nation Disability Awareness Week"

The Navajo Nation Advisory Council on Disabilities Presents “Walking in Beauty, Above and Beyond our Disabilities" Disabilty Awareness Walks. We encourage ALL to join us at the upcoming events.

Tuba City, Arizona

Disability Walk event on Tuesday, October 17, 2023 at 9:00 a.m.  we will be meeting on Main Street by the old behavioral health building and walk south of Main Street, than cut across by KFC into the back of Tuba City Community Center. 

Members of Northern Arizona Tribal Disability Coalition will be hosting the event.

Crownpoint, New Mexico

Disability Walk event on Thursday, October 19, 2023 at 9:00 a.m.  from Crownpoint Chapter and walk to the 4-Way Intersection by Willie’s Tire Shop and walk back to the Chapter House. Our Grand Marshall will be Danielle Tolino. Navajo Nation Public Safety will assist with escort during this time. Emergency Medical Services & Volunteer Fire Fighters will also be available. Refreshments will be available at the Chapter House.

Shiprock, New Mexico

Disability Walk event on Friday, October 20, 2023 at 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The walk will start at Shiprock Subway to Shiprock Victory Life Church by the Chapter House.
Walkers includes: Shiprock Council Delegate New Mexico Street Rodders, Shiprock Veterans, Redline Crew Car Club, Shiprock Police Department, Shiprock Local Schools, Shiprock EMT,  Shiprock Fire Department, Local Churches, Native American Disability Law Center. Snacks will be provided for walkers.
